"Right now, our businesses have to go to the federal government to get any data about Connecticut businesses. I want to change that." - Dominic Rapini

"The Secretary of the State's office is probably the most technologically demanding office in Hartford. It's extremely data intensive in terms of the voter rolls and the information you need to be able to understand how our elections are being conducted. We use technology on Election Day to process our votes. It's a very safe, secure system based on scanners, but that has to be managed. We want to do electronic poll books so that we can facilitate the check in process on Election Day. That's one of my big initiatives.
"On the business side (of the Secretary of the State's office), we need to develop some services for our business people to help them do things like business to business marketing. There's nothing right now that allows businesses to look up one another in any type of central database like there are in other states. Our businesses have to go to the federal government to get any data about Connecticut businesses. It's a huge mess, but it's also a big opportunity."
