Listen to Lee Elci's interview with Dominic Rapini - July 14, 2022.
Dominic Rapini on the suspension of supervised balloting in nursing homes and long-term care facilities:
"We've always had a proven, established protocol for ensuring properly held elections in these institutions. These protocols are designed to ensure fairness and privacy of the vote. They're conducted by trained people that are sworn to non-partisanship and sworn to uphold the Constitution. In one stroke of the pen, Governor Lamont just eliminated that protocol and he's allowing town clerks to send absentee ballots to residents of these institutions.
They're going to be conducting elections that are unsupervised. Quite frankly, if you're in a nursing home, chances are you may need supervision. There's a lot of people that are cognitively challenged, and they deserve a nonpartisan supervisor to help them out. And they've been denied that by Governor Lamont. And quite frankly, this opens the door for those who want to take advantage of the system and are looking for ways to cheat. I'm talking about unscrupulous people that may work in the home and have an opportunity to say who to vote for."
